Senior Database Administrator
Description
The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for systems that host the corporate data repositories on a MS SQL server platform in a secure, global, enterprise environment. The Senior DBA will utilize their technical expertise to review, evaluate, design, implement, and maintain the company’s databases. A successful candidate will work closely with network analysts, server support, and software developers, ensuring the full integration and smooth functioning of the database portion of the system environment. Other responsibilities include:
- Performing daily maintenance including backing up and optimizing databases
- Working with the development team to optimize application performance with respect to back-end access
- Identifying data sources, constructing data decomposition diagrams, providing data flow diagrams and documenting database procedures
- Working closely with software development team in the rollout of new software on a regular basis
- Providing technical support to development and quality assurance teams
- Performing ad hoc queries and reporting for decision support
- Handling complex database administrative features and technical design
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related area of study
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field
- 3+ years of experience working as an applications database administrator on MS SQL Server 2000 or 2005
- Extensive experience with T-SQL optimization and troubleshooting in a production environment
- Proven command of monitoring mission critical production DB servers and business processes
- Proven command of database design and architecture, as well as the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures
- Able to learn and master new technology quickly and improve personal performance through continual self-study
- Desire and commitment to providing outstanding security and customer service
- Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong interpersonal and team relationship skills and able to work well individually or as part of a team
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
A plus but not required:
- MCDBA
- Familiarity with software development lifecycle process
- Experience in a transaction processing business environment
- Experience in software development using Microsoft tools and technologies
